August Meeting on Special Day

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Location: Vila Thai Cuisine, 972 E. University Blvd. (upstairs patio)
Date: Saturday, 15 August
Time: 5:30 to 7:30

(Note that there will be no meeting this Monday, 3 August.)

This mixer is timed to be in conjunction with the Reel Inspiration Mark Travis “Staging the Scene” Workshop (contact Jana Segal for details about that, reelinspiration@hotmail.com or www.reelinspiration.blogspot.com). Meet Mark (www.markwtravis.com) and directors who are attending the workshop, including several from Phoenix, so you can extend your network.

As with all of our mixers, this is an opportunity to meet fellow filmmakers, make beneficial connections, and have fun! Anyone who works in film, television or theater is invited to come and meet others in their respective fields. Bring your headshots, resumes, business cards, and flyers.

Vila Thai Cuisine (www.vilathai.com/), located at Park and University, just outside the Main Gate of The University, above Cost Cutters, has amazing Thai food, along with beer and wine. For our mixer they will offer a tasting of five wines, for $5 per person. All food and drink costs are each individual’s responsibility. Otherwise, there is no cost to attend the mixer.

Film Office / Film & Media Coalition to present

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

We have moved the July IFASA meeting to a larger venue, just around the corner, Beowulf Alley Theatre, 11 S. 6th Ave. Remember, this meeting will be one week later, due to the holiday, on Monday, July 13, at 6:00 PM.

Our speakers will be Shelli Hall, Director of the Tucson Film Office (a division of the MTCVB), and Noel Paynter, President of the Arizona Film & Media Coalition. Building on the foundation of the Tucson Film Industry Summit in April and the listserv discussion since then, Shelli and Noel will provide information on what their organizations are doing, the latest developments with the film incentives, and the any recent news regarding the state and local film industry. They will also answer your questions on these and related topics. This is sure to be a very interesting and informative meeting. Everyone is welcome.

Special Event set for June 1st

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

The June IFASA meeting will be a special event at Auld Dubliner, 800 E University Ave. We will be screening short films by IFASA members. So, this is your chance to show your work to an audience. Whether it is new piece, an old favorite, and something off your shelf, bring it on DVD to show your fellow filmmakers. We ask that you let us know ahead of time that you plan to show a film, the title, and how long it is (please try to keep them under 10 minutes). Send me a note to mclaff9@earthlink.net. We plan to have about an hour of entertainment for the event which will run from 6 – 8pm. Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the short films. Admission is free. Any drinks and food is on a pay as you go basis.
