The IFASA mission is to encourage, build and support a strong local independent film community by promoting the production, exhibition and public awareness of film, digital video and media arts. To achieve this mission, IFASA provides technical assistance, pools resources and talent, and offers educational and networking opportunities for the professional and novice alike.
IFASA is active in the community, hosting a variety of screenings, workshops, contests and mixers throughout the year.
IFASA membership consists of a diverse representation of backgrounds and experience all committed to a single purpose: the support and advocacy of independent film as a broad category that includes film, video, audio and online-multimedia arts.
IFASA was formerly known as AIVF-Tucson and served as the regional salon of the national AIVF (Association of Independent Video and Filmmakers).
Membership meetings are open to the public and are held the first Monday of every month, 6 p.m. at Access Tucson, 124 E. Broadway (check Calendar for next meeting). At the heart of each meeting is a presentation designed to further the knowledge and education of attendees in a topic related to filmmaking. Membership meetings also serve as an opportunity to network and hear announcements about upcoming productions. And some meetings also feature the screening of short films.
There is a $10 annual membership fee to be a member of IFASA. This entitles members to discounts on various film workshops and events throughout the year offered by IFASA and partner organizations. Membership is also a requirement for voting and running for positions on the IFASA Board. Paid membership is not required for meeting and event attendance or being on the listserv. Print out the membership form and send it with a $10 check to “IFASA” to the address at the bottom of the form.
IFASA maintains a listserv through Yahoo! Groups, where members can post items of interest to filmmakers including screening, contest, workshop or festival announcements, audition notices, available crew positions, visiting filmmakers, as well as other filmmaking events. To subscribe to the list, go to http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/ifasa/ and click on “Join This Group!” or send an e-mail to ifasa-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
IFASA has a board of directors that is approved by the membership on an annual basis. The board meets monthly to manage the affairs of the organization. Board meetings are held the second Monday of every month, 6 p.m. at Access Tucson, 124 E. Broadway. Board meetings are open to the membership. For more information on the board, contact the president of IFASA board, at president@ifasa.net
